The prestigious Titanium and Integrated Lions Award at the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity was awarded to Digital Domain, the production company who in collaboration with Dr. Dre, created the 2pac hologram featured at Coachella 2012. Virtual 2pac took top spot over 500 contenders, beating out such brands as Nike, American Express and Target.

Coachella Resurrection

The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival is one of Cali’s premier music events. Every year, Coachella finds a way to impress fans and this year the show stopper was a LIVE Tupac performance.

A hologram of Tupac Shakur, assembled from archival footage, took the stage with Snoop to perform 2 Of Americaz Most Wanted followed by Hail Mary.

AUC studies the works of 2pac

Your words can also spark new minds. Submit your written works and paper abstracts by April 23rd to the Tupac Amaru Shakur Collection Conference.

The Atlanta University Center (AUC) Robert W. Woodruff Library and the Tupac Amaru Shakur Foundation present the Tupac Amaru Shakur Collection Conference: Hip Hop, Education, and Expanding the Archival Imagination.

This two-day academic conference convenes scholars, educators, students, and artists to present papers on themes related to the life and works of Tupac Shakur, education, and Hip Hop culture more broadly.

Paper abstracts will be accepted until April 23, 2012. The conference will be held at the AUC Woodruff Library, September 27-28, in Atlanta, Georgia, where the Tupac Amaru Shakur Collection is available for research.

“Tupac Shakur may be the most influential and compelling rapper…” according to Michael Eric Dyson who authored a book about the late, rap artist. Currently a professor of sociology at Georgetown University, Dyson is an American academic, author and radio host. In his book “Hollar If You Hear Me – Searching For Tupac Shakur”, Dyson examines the ills of hip-hop culture without neglecting the rapper’s positive acts and intentions. He says that Shakur wanted to “combat the anti-intellectualism of hip-hop” and thus uses the book to draw the attention of socially conscious readers who have an interest in hip-hop’s affect on society.
