“How do you say no?”
That’s what Antoine Fuqua told 2Pac.com when we asked why he decided to tackle the upcoming Shakur film. “He was an important voice” Fuqua continued, “… and he spoke to people without a voice”. Antoine credited 2Pac’s poignant and relevant voice in part to his appreciation for art. Fuqua pointed out that like many artists before him, 2Pac experienced a great deal of animosity because of how controversial his music was considered to be. When asked what we wanted the audience to take away from the upcoming film, Antoine said “I want people to realize that he was a great artist. He was a genius at what he did”
In addition to Pac’s creative life, Antoine hopes to capture a new side 2Pac’s personality. “I think, you know, not everyone fully understands the intimate details”. Fuqua went on to say that capturing personal experiences that only the important people in 2Pac’s life would know would bring out something new that no one will have seen before. “Hopefully” he said, “…that will be on screen”.
During our conversation we heard Antoine’s passion and respect for the project first hand. We know that the film is in excellent hands.
